The most expensive painting in the world

Painting is definetly one of the most appreciated types of art, therefore is also a pricey one. Thus, for those who have ever wondered how much does the most expensive painting cost, hold on to your hats! In 2011, the royal family of Qatar purchased Paul Cézanne’s Card Players for $259 milion. Today, this post-impressionist oil on canvas is worth $269.4 milion. It is actually the first and also the largest one of a series of five, all of them illustrating peasants playing cards. Painted in 1892/1893 – Cézanne’s final years, these are representetive for the artist’s work. What is so interesting about these paintings is that the farmers don’t look at each other, they are concentrated on their cards, creating a scene of human still life, as a critic once said.
